FAQs

GluteGuard is an innovative dietary supplement (complementary medicine) that provides symptomatic relief for people who are on the spectrum of gluten sensitivities. It’s specifically designed to help people manage their gluten-free diets. GluteGuard is the result of decades of Australian and international research and clinical trials that involved the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia and university hospitals in Poland. It uses the natural power of the caricain enzyme from the paypaya (pawpaw) fruit – scientific name Carica papaya– to target toxic gluten peptides and break them down into harmless, smaller pieces. With its smooth enteric coating, GluteGuard activates where it’s needed in the small intestine to help prevent the symptoms of inadvertent gluten intake.

When you take a GluteGuard tablet immediately before a meal, its enteric coating enables it to withstand the acidic environment of the stomach and pass into the small intestine. Once in the right location (the duodenum), the coating dissolves to release natural enzymes that immediately start cleaving the toxic gluten peptides into harmless, smaller fragments. These smaller fragments pass quickly and harmlessly through the rest of the digestive system. By digesting the gluten, GluteGuard helps to prevent the unpleasant symptoms of inadvertent gluten ingestion that may result from toxic gluten peptides interacting with the intestinal lining.

GluteGuard is intended for adults above 18 years who are on the spectrum of gluten sensitivities. It is recommended for anyone on a gluten-free diet who wants to guard against the risks of gluten cross-contamination and alleviate the symptoms of accidental gluten ingestion when dining out, travelling, visiting friends, socialising, or attending work events.

GltueGuard is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.

ALERGY WARNING: Do not use GluteGuard if allergic to natural rubber latex or papaya.

No, GluteGuard is designed to help manage the gluten-free diet. It can’t replace a gluten-free diet. For those who suffer coeliac disease or are sensitive to gluten, a gluten free diet is the only treatment available. While many people find it very hard to maintain a 100% gluten-free diet, the symptoms experienced after accidental ingestion of gluten can be excruciating. Recommend GluteGuard for patients that need extra protection against gluten cross-contamination.

The recommended adult dosage for GluteGuard is one (1) GluteGuard tablet with each meal, or as advised by your healthcare professional. Take the GluteGuard tablet just prior to eating. This means the tablet can release its enzymes before or at the same time as your food reaches the small intestine, allowing the enzymes to break down the toxic gluten peptides with optimal efficiency. The maximum dose for GluteGuard is four (4) tablets per day.

Gluten occurs naturally in wheat, barley, rye and other cereal grains. Gluten can also be found in products that contain ingredients based on these grains, and in products manufactured in an environment where gluten may be present. Hidden gluten may be found in products such as sauces, marinades, gravies, processed meats, vegetarian meat alternatives, and spices. GluteGuard is formulated to prevent the unpleasant symptoms of accidental gluten ingestion, regardless of where the gluten came from.

No. Every component of each GluteGuard tablet is digested by the body’s normal processes. After the active ingredient, the caricain enzyme, has broken down a large number of toxic gluten peptides, it is digested too.
